FAQ

  • Is French Polishing harmful to the environment?

French Polishing can be seen as truly green. Only natural products are used and little environmental damaged is caused – wood lasts for a very long time when it’s well cared for – so no need to fell more trees.

We support the ‘Reduce, Re-use, Recycle’ approach – our finishing techniques mean we can extend the life of new and old furniture. We are very keen to encourage consumers to buy ‘pre loved’ furniture at auctions, garage sales, ebay, freecycle etc and restore it or remodel it to suit their needs. Old chairs look great in funky modern fabrics, and even war time, utility furniture can be given a make over to look fabulous. Take a look at our portfolio to see what can be done.

Traditional French Polishes are produced naturally, not synthetically, for example Shellac is secreted by the female Lac beetle and is harvested from the tree canopy. Ethanol is an alcohol produced from grains – not oil or petro-chemicals.

We adhere to all the environmental waste regulations and are bound by COSHH (Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health) and our waste is responsibly managed and disposed of safely.
